BTC names head of media group


Former Dow Jones manager jumps to owner of Bitcoin Magazine, podcasts, event series

Local technology media and events company BTC Inc. has named a former Dow Jones and Business Insider executive to lead its media division.

Andrew Fleming comes to downtown-based BTC as general manager of BTC Media, which publishes blockchain technology and cryptocurrency titles — including Bitcoin Magazine — as well as podcasts and conferences such as the Distributed:Health event opening today at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Based in New York, he had been director of operations of YHouse Inc., a research-focused nonprofit in the Big Apple, for the past year and a half. Before that, he was head of content platforms at Dow Jones for almost three and a half years and spent more than six years at Business Insider, where he rose to vice president of product.

“Hiring Andrew puts our media business in a position to better serve the growing audiences in the blockchain and crypto space, to deliver more value to our advertisers and to expand the mindshare of distributed technologies,” said BTC CEO David Bailey. “He’s been a pioneer in the traditional media landscape, and with our team and audience he’s poised to take our media business to the next level.”

Launched five years ago, BTC has raised more than $36 million in capital and is now home to more than 60 employees. Through its publications, podcasts and event network, its leaders claim a global audience of about 20 million people.

“I’ve had the chance to grow successful media properties from the ground up and to offer leadership in some of the world’s oldest and most reputable publications,” said Fleming, who earned a master’s degree in astrophysics from Columbia University. “This is an opportunity to serve a new audience in one of the world’s most exciting and limitless industries.”
